Housekeeping vs. nursing uniforms in a hospital: two separate orders
Hospital housekeeping gets ordered one of two ways by default, and both are slightly wrong: as a scaled-down version of the nursing scrub order, or as a generic facility housekeeping contract that doesn’t account for a hospital’s specific colour-coding and infection-control needs. It deserves its own spec.
This bridges our general housekeeping uniform guide and our hospital colour-coding guide, narrowed to what’s specific about housekeeping inside a hospital rather than a generic facility.
Why it isn’t the nursing fabric spec
Hospital housekeeping work (cleaning chemical exposure, mopping, waste handling, heavy physical movement through a shift) wears fabric differently than clinical duty does. The right spec looks more like our ward boy and attendant uniform guide than the clinical scrub guide: heavier GSM, reinforced stitching, and fabric that tolerates cleaning-chemical contact without degrading, rather than the softer hand-feel a scrub set prioritises.
Why it isn’t a generic facility housekeeping contract either
A hospital’s housekeeping staff work inside an infection-control environment that a mall or office building’s housekeeping contract doesn’t have to account for. Two things specifically carry over from the clinical side of the building:
- A colour distinct from clinical staff, so anyone in the building can tell at a glance who’s a nurse and who’s housekeeping, the same wayfinding logic covered in our colour-coding guide. This band should also be distinct from ward boys and attendants, even where the fabric spec is similar, since the roles are different for infection-control and accountability purposes.
- Laundering frequency aligned with the hospital’s infection-control policy, not a generic facility contract’s standard. See our infection control and uniform policy guide for what that policy should actually specify.
Order it as its own line, on the hospital’s purchase order
The practical fix is structural: put hospital housekeeping on the same purchase order as nursing scrubs, patient wear, and attendant uniforms (so colour-coding stays coordinated across the whole hospital and the account consolidates with one manufacturer), but spec it as its own line item with its own fabric, GSM, and colour, not a smaller order of whatever the clinical scrub pattern is.
How we supply hospital housekeeping uniforms
As a hospital uniform supplier, we supply housekeeping uniforms to hospitals across India, specified separately from clinical scrubs and ward attendant wear on the same account.
- Heavier GSM and chemical-tolerant fabric specified for the actual cleaning work.
- Colour kept visually distinct from nursing, attendant, and lab staff.
- Laundering frequency matched to your hospital’s infection-control policy.
- Ordered as its own line item on a shared hospital purchase order.
